COME the last night of October, millions of kids in the U.S. are so excited that a number of them will pee in their Halloween costumes. It's finally time to go out trick-or-treating. It's time for CANDY and sugar highs.
Apparently in the 1920s Halloween was mostly for adults, who partied all night. It wasn't until WW II days in the 1940s that Halloween became a holiday mostly for kids. Since then costumes have become more elaborate, more expensive and purchased or rented, not made at home. But the spirit is the same, as you can see in the following vintage photos... "Forget taking pictures! We want candy."
Flying in the backyard, is this witch sitting on a big weather vane?
I recognize the skeleton, Uncle Sam and maybe Our Gang kid.
It must have been Daddy who got his son that drum, left, because Mommy had to listen to it for weeks before Halloween.
Is this Papa's future Klu Klux Klan boy? What's with the swastikas, below?
